Bad credit rating

Question: My wife’s daughter, who is just twenty-one, has just applied for a credit card…and guess what she was refused. The reason, an unpaid parking ticket issued about six months ago.

My wife knew nothing about the ticket, which if she had paid immediately, would have cost $45. Now, however, due to her cavalier attitude, the case has finished up in the local court and the fine is now over $200.

What’s more annoying than anything is that my wife’s daughters previously good credit rating is now in tatters.

Kidsdon’t they drive you nuts?

Is the system the same in the USA?

Cheers Mickey

Answer: No, we have credit bureaus in the US that furnish credit reports to companies for making loan decisions (such as credit cards). Unpaid parking & traffic tickets don’t get reported to the credit bureaus–unless one uses a credit card or loan to pay for the tickets and fail to pay the creditor back.

How does the credit system work in the UK? How did the bank find out about the ticket? I thought credit bureaus were a US- only thing, and that they were banned in most foreign countries..
