can I get bad credit for owing dr. bill?

Question: I owe about $300 to a physician and have been paying $20/month. They sent me a notice saying that if I didn’t pay the whole amount, they were going to forward my bill to a collection agency. I _have_ been paying, just not the whole amount at once! I just don’t want to put the money on a credit card, and can only afford $20/month. Can they ruin my credit over this?

Answer: No. As long as you are making regular payments on this bill, they can’t take it to a collection agency. I suggest you call the office and explain your situation. Point out that they’ll save money if they keep their pants on, and just wait for their regular payments. Ask them to quit sending you threatening notices. There are even laws governing what someone can do to collect a bill. The fact that you’re making regular payments puts you on high ground.
