Help me, i’m in debt & can’t get out!!

Question: ok heres my situation.

I have a VERY VERY bad credit rating. I went through college on student loans which have added up over the years to around $20,000. I have bad credit card debt too.

The reason for the loans was that coming out of high school my grades were not so high but just barely good enough to get in so I didn’t qualify for scholarships. After I got to college I did a complete 180 & actually graduated with honors although they still never let me get a scholarship no matter how many times I applied. Assistance from home was nil. My family was/is VERY VERY poor. Many it was up to me living off student loans to send money home to pay bills. All this while doing workstudy.

After going through & getting a bachelor and masters degree like this I am finally in a position where you would think everything is perfect. I just got a wonderful job making an Excellent salary. A very Excellent salary. The only problem is that my credit is so screwed up that i probably couldn’t even get a movie rental card now.

I see lots of posts for warning people about not developing bad credit. How about some advice on how to get out of that bottomless pit.

Please respond to yan…@asu.edu as well as post please

Answer: just live your life, enjoy your career, and be happy. Work at paying off a reasonable portion of your debts monthly. You have accomplished a fine thing by finishing school, and doing so well there. Stop thinking of yourself as “poor”. You’re a highly accomplished person who has accomplishments that most people will never have. So you don’t have a credit card…big deal. You’ll find that being in debt for 20K is not considered to be that big a thing. Wait ’til you’re several MILLION dollars in debt, but are considered to be a good credit risk. Credit rating can be funny that way.
