Begging Us to Get Into Debt
Question: I know that everybody gets those credit card inducements in the mail all the time. We certainly do – double income, no kid (yet – just wait a month, I’m due Jan. 19). But now that we have been living in our very first home, with our very first mortgage, for 4 weeks, we are suddenly inundated with “opportunities” to take out $50, $60 or $65,000 in “consolidation” loans. “No equity!” they say, whatever that means. I got four such items in yesterday’s mail, and two the day before. We just took on a jumbo mortgage and these lenders want to lend us another $50K? No wonder people in the USA are drowning in debt.
All these mailers get ripped in half and dropped immediately into recycling.
Answer: I hope your name and address & etc. aren’t on any papers you toss out . . . I got a shredder to chop up my credit card statement, bank statement, and misc. financial stuff like that before setting it out for the trash hauler . . . have heard that there are unsavory types who go will go through your trash and try to steal your identity . . . Anymore, anyone who wants to read my sensitive mail has to do an awful lot of scotch taping first!
