need objective help-bankruptcy or credit counseling?

Question: I need help!

Please advise me of a source which can help me decide whether I need to file for bankruptcy, participate in debt “counseling”, or obtain an home equity loan. Is there a web site which can help me in an objective manner? I earn $35,000 annually and owe $83,000.

Answer: Gerri Detweiler has a good book out, can’t remember it’s title, though. look at www.bankrate.com, check www.shareware.com for programs that help you manage debt. Quicken does a good job too.

Nobody’s likely to be objective…attorneys profit from bankruptcies, debt counselors usually help creditors as a whole, even “objective” news sources have advertisers and purchasers of their mailing lists, and slant toward someone. That $83k may not be ridiculous, depending upon whether it’s secured (house, car) or unsecured (VISA bills). The latter is bad, in case anyone’s wondering.
